We’ve Got You!
Protecting Your Loved Ones Through Life's Transitions
At Schmeltzer Law, we understand that family is everything. It's the source of love, support, and stability. But, sometimes, family relationships face challenges that require legal guidance and solutions.
Our Approach to Family Law
Clear Communication: We keep you informed throughout the legal process, ensuring you understand your options and feel empowered to make informed decisions.
Compassionate Representation: We recognize the emotional challenges of family legal matters and provide empathetic support throughout your case.
Protecting Your Interests: We advocate for your rights and strive to achieve a positive outcome for you and your family.
We provide comprehensive legal representation in a wide range of family law matters, including:
Divorce: We guide you through the divorce process, from initial filing to final Judgment.
Child Custody & Parenting Time: We can help you understand the types of custody, navigate how a custody determination is made and create a parenting plan that prioritizes the best interests of your children.
Child Support: While Child Support is determined by application of the Michigan Child Support Formula, it is key to ensure that the correct information is entered into the formula to obtain the correct result. Additionally, there are many aspects of child support that can lead to uncertain results, such as who carries health insurance, out of pocket medical costs, imputation of income (if a parent has an unexercised ability to earn), self-employment income determination and accuracy, parental resources outside of traditional “income” that are available to support the child, or day care costs.
Spousal Support (Alimony): We work to ensure fair and appropriate financial arrangements are in place to support you during and after separation or divorce. We can help you determine if the facts can be applied to spousal support, or how to negotiate a settlement agreement that provides alternatives to spousal support.
Stepparent Adoptions: We help stepparents establish legal parental rights, providing stability and security for children in blended families.
Guardianships & Conservatorships: We assist with legal arrangements for both minor children or adults who cannot care for themselves or their finances.
Grandparent's Rights: We advocate for grandparents seeking visitation rights in the best interests of their grandchildren.
Same-Sex Marriage: We provide legal guidance for same-sex couples navigating divorce, child custody, adoption, and other family law matters.
Neglect/Abuse & Foster Care: We represent clients involved in child protection proceedings, ensuring the safety and well-being of children while advocating for your constitutional rights as a fit parent to raise your children.
